Art Reviewing Masterclass: New Writing North

I had the pleasure of teaching an art reviewing masterclass to 18-24 year olds at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle. The students reviewed the current Thomas Schiebitz exhibition. Organized by the brilliant Laura Brewis, the class was part of a programme to encourage young people from the North who want to work in the arts / media.

Writer-in-residence: Laura Marling / Secret Cinema gig

For one night, novelist Sarah Perry and I were writers-in-residence at the dazzling Laura Marling / Secret Cinema gig, which took place in an abandoned school turned 1920s hotel on Victoria Park Road in Hackney. Sarah and I were stationed in the library, piled high with books and old typewriters. We asked audience members to help us with our writer's block by recounting their most intimate life stories, which we wrote and re-imagined on the typewriters. Each audience member received a copy of their story.
